- Why do you think the girl writes to the old man rather than Father Christmas (which all the other children will be doing at this time of year)? What does this tell us about the girl’s character?
- From which room in the house does she try and send the letter? Why?
- What type of Christmas does the girl have? How is it different to the old man? Is this similar to your Christmas?
- How does the old man feel? Why does he cry? Is crying always a sad thing?
I felt quite emotional when I watched this clip.
She thinks it is quite strange for an elderly man to be on the moon and is also quite concerned that he is lonely.
I think the girl is seven and the man is 74.
I felt happy and I think the girl was 7 and the old man was 78.
Hello Year 2
I think that the girl appears to be going through a number of emotions.
She could be bored, fed up or left out by her brother or other family members.
You can tell this by her facial expressions and her body language.
I think that she’s about seven or eight years old.
She appears to be curious then surprised as she opens her mouth wide.
She seems to wave because she has been looking through a telescope which makes people and things look a lot nearer than they are. Although the girl is using a telescope the man isn’t and she thinks he can see her as clearly as she can see him.
I think the man is around eighty years old and he is lonely because when the telescope is zoomed into the area where he is there’s only a shed and no-one else is present. He has a sad face which could mean he his lonely on his own looking at earth.
She writes to him because she recognises that he is on his own and he may be sad. The girl may also feel that his emotions are similar to hers at the start.
I think that she’s very caring and understands the the importance of communication. She appears to be kind hearted.
She tries to send a letter from the attic bedroom because it’s closer to the moon and has no obstacles present.
She appears to be having a very nice time with family and presents all around. It’s completely different to hers because the man has no family, friends and no presents.
When the man gets the present he appears to be surprised and excited. He cries because he is happy and he can look through the telescope to see what the girls is doing and lots of others.
He now has tears of joy because he is happy with emotion instead of tears of sadness.
I think the girl is 8 years old.
She feels bored in the first 5 seconds because she doesn’t have any toys.
She feels surprised when she sees the man on the moon and waves to try and get his attention. The man might be 62 years old.
I think the man is lonely because he lives on his own.
The girl writes to the man on the moon because she thinks he is lonely and she wants to show him she cares. She is a kind person and thinks about other people first.
She tries to send the letter from her bedroom because it is high in the house.
The girl has a good Christmas because you see her hugging her mum and there are quite a few people in the house. It looks like a party. This will be like my Christmas.
The old man feels sad because he is on his own at Christmas. When he got the present he cried because he knew someone cared about him and through the telescope he could see someone on Earth.
Sometimes people cry because they are sad, sometimes because they are happy.
I think the girl is sad at the beginning, I think she is about 8 and wants to see what is on the moon, I think she also wants to make the old man happy, he is about 82 years old.
I hint the old man looks a bit sad, poor and lonely.
I think the girl wants the old man to be much happier and if she communicates with him he will be much happier.
I liked the bit where the old man looked through the telescope and saw the little girls eye.
If he had a friend he would be happy
The man on the moon was really sad because he had no friends and he was lonely.
You don’t always have to be with someone to be thinking about them.
My favorite bit was when they saw each other through the telescopes, it made me feel happy.
