Your Fantastic Elastic Brain

As we are learning more about Growth and Fixed Mindsets we are beginning to understand that a Growth Mindset stretches and shapes our brains. Mrs C wants to learn from YOU!

Can you find some fun, interesting facts about our brains and blog about them here. Let’s learn together and become BRAIN EXPERTS!

The Year 2 Growth Mindset Crew – Persistence

We are all working together to develop our mindsets through persistence. A Growth Mindset is crucial for us to be successful when we are showing persistence. Mrs C wants you to blog whenever you show persistence at school, at home, when shopping, at beavers, rainbows, sports clubs….

REMEMBER persistence can sometimes be a negative thing if you have been told ‘no’ or someone has asked you to stop and you carry on. We are only interested in ‘good’ persistence.

2017 Contraction Chase!

We have been learning all about contracted forms and the use of an apostrophe when 2 words come together. Our class Contracted Chase Challenge is for everyone to write a contracted form and then put it into a sentence BUT you can’t repeat any contractions previously used so you need to check and make sure it’s not been used before. Let’s see if we can complete it before we come back from half term.

Mrs C will start it off……..

we are = we’re     My mum said we’re all going shopping on Saturday. Continue reading

Let’s use syllables… Clap it out!

This week in phonics we have begun to use the strategy of breaking words down into their syllables to help us spell them. So Mrs C is setting you a SYLLABLE CHASE CHALLENGE here’s how it works!

I will spell a word using 3 syllables and then challenge the next person to spell a word using a number of syllables. The child that completes my challenge spells a word and then says how many syllables the next word has to have. So when you come to play you need to check the last comment made to see how many syllables your word has to have…. the maximum number of syllables you can set is 4.

Mrs Cronshaw’s word……. 3 syllables chocolate =  choc o late

The next word needs to have 2 syllables.

Moon Landing Memories

image

During our history lessons we’ve been learning about this historical event. We know as historians you can learn a lot about the past through pictures, books, diaries, letters, film, the internet, artefacts and talking to people who witnessed the events. Mrs C interviewed her mum about what she remembered of the moon landing in 1969. So get interviewing, can you ask a grandma or grandad, or any relative who remembers what happened? Blog your answers and share them with your classmates – you never know Mrs C might offer you a GPS1 reporter job if you’re a great interviewer!!

Check out our e-Book on GPS1 it’s great!

It’s our birthday – let’s celebrate!

161112-y9c4ey1vwcxc1

This month our class blog is 12 months old – in fact our first post was written on 10th November 2015. It’s been a great year and we have had lots of visitors tune in to our love for learning. Wouldn’t it be great to receive birthday wishes from across the globe!

This term we are focusing on the continents and oceans of the world as part of our Geography focus. This month we are going to track anyone who visits our site or leaves a birthday message by recording your location on our class world map.

PLEASE leave a comment and say where you are from so we can tally the comments against your continent.  I wonder which continent will send the most messages? Thank you from everyone in Year 2 for taking part 🙂

Qr Code Treasure Hunt

REMEMBER, REMEMBER THE 5th OF NOVEMBER!

Today we had lots of fun searching for QR codes hidden along the corridors – there were 7 to find and each code led us to websites with information about Guy Fawkes. We had to use the websites to complete our Guy Fawkes fact files. We learnt lots of interesting information and had to work well in our teams to complete the task.  Can you blog about any facts about why we light bonfires on 5th November each year?

We love Horrible Histories and watched the Guy Fawkes sketch 🙂

Red, White and Blue day 2016

image

This week KS1 came dressed in red, white and blue to raise money for our military families in the UK,the  airforce, army and navy. The money will help families of the military when needed. We had a great day, to find out more go to  www.redwhiteblueday.co.uk

In class we focused on World War One and the experiences of the soldiers over 100 years ago. We created a class ‘and’ poem about the pictures we studied. We then used Videoscribe to make our poem come to life. Why not blog about anything you learnt this week about WWI and Red,White and Blue day.

Ernest Shackleton Explorer of the Antarctic

Today (7/6/2016) we had a class trip to Manchester Central Library. Linking to our topic ‘The Frozen Planet’  we learnt about the explorer Ernest Shackleton and his exhibition to Antarctica. We would like to say a huge thank you to Angela Rawcliffe who organised this for us at the library. We had great fun filling in our journals with interesting, fun facts.  Mrs C would like you to blog what you enjoyed about our trip and 2 interesting facts you found out that you would like to share with your classmates.

Keep tuning in to see our amazing Ernest Shackleton e-Book which will be published shortly.

Been some great night passes over Europe recently… I am waving! https://flic.kr/p/FBPpTL

As you know Tim Peake is currently in space working on the International Space Station. He began his journey in December and is there for 6 months. Do you know the countries in the pictures he posted on his Facebook page? If you could ask him any question what would it be?

We watched Tim’s Cosmic Classroom, it’s great fun!

Today (25/4/16) we tweeted Tim Peake inviting him to visit our blog to maybe answer some of our questions – wouldn’t it be fantastic if he blogs us from space!

Our Archenemies!

Archenemy Collage

Archenemy Collage

We’ve done some great work about ourselves as superheroes, now we have each created our own archenemies thinking about their features and what they could do to weaken our powers. Your blog homework this week is to blog the name of your character,  3 features describing how they look and what they could do to make you powerless.
